In celebration of Women’s Month, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte joined women’s rights advocates in the Purple Action Day program led by the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHR) last Wednesday, March 1.

The event’s goal is to amplify women’s voices and address the challenges faced by every woman in the country, such as ending Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC), harassment, discrimination, inequality, and more.

During the event, Mayor Belmonte discussed the city’s programs for women, including social services, the QC Protection Center for VAWC victims, education, and livelihoods among others.

Additionally, the event emphasizes the importance of women’s participation and leadership to promote their rights. Mayor Joy Belmonte also shared stories of women who succeeded in achieving their goals and supporting their families with the help of various city government programs.

The city has implemented several initiatives such as the Gender and Development Council Office, urban farming, the “Tindahan ni Ate Joy” program, and Alternative Learning System and livelihood workshops for PDL.

Belmonte also emphasized the city’s zero tolerance policy towards harassment and abuse against women, and the availability of a shelter and psychosocial and legal aid through the QC Protection Center.

Mayor Belmonte’s efforts for women in Quezon City have received recognition from various agencies, which shows her dedication to advancing women’s rights and promoting gender equality.

Overall, her efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society for all residents of Quezon City.

Moreover, the Quezon City local government has prepared different programs and activities in celebration of Women’s Month.
