A hidden gem in the Philippines shines: a stunning waterfall nestled in Sitio Zapanta, Agusan del Norte, once notorious as a guerilla base, is now being eyed as the region’s next blockbuster tourist destination.

Governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante visited the area, home to indigenous Mamanwa and Manobo communities, to explore the development potential of Arimbungog Falls, famed for its breathtaking scenery and pristine waters.

The visit marks a significant shift for Sitio Zapanta, which has transitioned from a conflict zone to a beacon of hope. With peace regained, the community embraces development opportunities, while authorities remain vigilant to prevent any resurgence of armed groups.

Governor Amante stressed the importance of involving the indigenous communities in ensuring tourism and development efforts align with their needs and aspirations. She also urged locals to protect the environment and practice responsible tourism.

The community, led by Datu Lando Anlagan, readily pledged their commitment to preserving the area’s natural beauty and fostering peace. Mayor Jenry Montante of Kitcharao emphasized the need for continued vigilance to safeguard the hard-won peace.

Sitio Zapanta’s transformation symbolizes the region’s commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment. Arimbungog Falls, a symbol of this transformation, holds the promise of a bright future for the once-troubled area.
