President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has vowed to complete the construction of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) project on time, expressing confidence that it would help alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila and create new opportunities in the region.

The President delivered a speech during the milestone ceremony of the BCIB in Mariveles, Bataan on Friday, stating that he expects the project to begin construction by October of this year.

He called on the officials and employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and all the consultants involved in the project to remain committed to completing the bridge on schedule.

President Marcos emphasized that the planned construction of the P175.6-billion project would cut travel time between Central Luzon and Calabarzon from five hours to just 45 minutes.

The President further stated that once the project is completed, it would help bring prices down for goods and services, as transportation and logistics costs will decrease, generating immense savings for all.

He also highlighted that the construction of the bridge would help support the development of seaports in Bataan and Cavite, potentially making them international shipping gateways for the country.

The 32-kilometer Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project is a cable-stayed bridge that will be built over Manila Bay, starting in Barangay Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan, and ending in Barangay Timalan Concepcion in Naic, Cavite.

The project is expected to be one of the longest bridges in the nation and the world which will be divided into seven contract packages to accelerate completion.

Moreover, the President expressed his gratitude to the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for their continued support in financing the BCIB project from its inception to its construction.
