The municipality of Lambunao, Iloilo plans to develop the picturesque “Tinagong Dagat” lake into an ecotourism site.

Perched 2,000 feet above sea level, this natural gem holds great promise for tourism.

Dubbed “Tinagong Dagat,” the lake’s name originates from local legends. Despite being filled with fresh water, its vastness resembles a sea, according to the older generation.

Covering around 5.3 hectares, Tinagong Dagat serves as the headwater of the Ulian River, crucial for irrigation in neighboring barangays.

Lambunao’s Tourism Officer Jennifer Osorio, highlights the lake’s cultural significance. Its inclusion in the annual submission of cultural properties supports the town’s pursuit of the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The local government eyes to restore the lake to its original size of eight hectares, Osorio expresses concern over its gradual reduction due to siltation and conversion to farmland.

Tinagong Dagat is sought after by extreme mountaineers.

The transformation of Tinagong Dagat highlights Lambunao’s commitment to sustainable development and showcases its natural beauty.

This project is expected to boost local tourism, drive economic growth, and preserve the town’s cultural heritage for future generations.
