The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) acknowledges the long overdue fare increase for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) and announced that a new pending jeepney fare increase due to the continuously rising cost of petroleum products is likely to be approved early next week.

According to LTFRB Chairperson Cheloy Velicaria-Garafi, they are still determining how much of the P3 to P4 additional fare petition would be applied while they consult with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

LTFRB Chairman also disclosed that petitions for fare increases are still pending for other public utility vehicles (PUVs) such as taxis, buses, UV express, and even premium point-to-point bus services.

Filipinos must brace themselves for the continuously rising cost of commodities as NEDA announced that these hikes may lead to an inflationary effect.

More necessary policies and programs that can help ease the burdens caused by inflation, especially in the transport system, are very much needed in the country right now.
