On Monday, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Jose Arturo Tugade resigned from his post citing differences in public service methods with the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Tugade assumed the role of LTO chief in November 2022. In his statement, he noted that there were “differences” in the methods of the DOTr and the LTO on how to “succeed in serving the public.”

He further added that his resignation would allow DOTr Secretary Jimmy Bautista to work effectively with his chosen candidate.

Despite his resignation, Tugade remains committed to the LTO’s success and believes that it can be a force for good in the country.

The LTO chief’s resignation comes as the agency faces a plastic card shortage for driver’s licenses and the lack of vehicle plates due to issues in the procurement process. Tugade and Bautista gave contradicting statements about the issue.

His resignation is set to take effect on June 1,2023.
