The Diyandi Festival in Iligan City has kicked off, bringing a month-long celebration of three diverse cultures, joyful gatherings, and gratitude to the community.

The festival, which opened on August 30, is a way to celebrate Iligan City’s rich heritage and honor its patron, Saint Michael the Archangel.

Mayor Frederick W. Siao officially started the festival, highlighting its significance as a showcase of Iligan’s unique qualities.

The Department of Tourism-10 Director, Marie Elaine Unchuan, emphasized the festival’s role in preserving the city’s multicultural heritage, bringing back a joyful spirit with fewer restrictions this year.

The city government has planned over 100 activities throughout the month, including the opening of Mugna on August 31, the “pagpakanaug” (descending of the patron’s statue) on September 20, a “lechon” (roasted pig) festival, and street dancing on September 27.

Jules Verne Padilla, Chairman of the Diyandi Executive Management Board, expressed gratitude to those who made this celebration possible.

The police are also ensuring the security of the festival, with Police Col. Renante delos Santos assuring the public that they have comprehensive security plans in place, including support from the Philippine Army and civil security units.

They have even requested additional forces from the PRO-10 regional headquarters to ensure the safety of Iligan City during the festivities.
