Exciting news for nature enthusiasts as the Lagayan local government unit (LGU) in Abra prepares to open a newly discovered cave in Barangay Pang-ot to the public.

The LGU is currently crafting a management plan for the cave, classified as Class III by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which means it’s generally safe for inexperienced visitors with no known threatened species, archeological, geological, natural history, cultural or historical values.

Tourism Officer Michelle Bersamira shared that the cave is a naturally formed tunnel-like structure with entry and exit points that stretch for over 150 meters.

Heightening the conservation and protection of the cave, she explained that the LGU is taking all necessary measures to ensure its safety, including prohibiting hunting of any living species inside the cave and preventing vandalism.

Lagayan Information Officer Joe Ervick Biyang expressed his excitement and optimism about the potential tourist spot, saying that he believes it will be a significant attraction in the months to come.

The LGU will be issuing directives to the barangay officials to implement measures to oversee the cave’s safety and integrity.
