To recognize and reward the efforts of Pasig City’s barangays in compliance with their environmental and sustainable projects and programs, the local government held its first “Pag-Asa Award ng Kalikasan: Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay in Pasig City” ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 15.

The ceremony was led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO).

The awardees were presented with plaques of recognition, given by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Vice Mayor Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., and the City Council.

The winners were also given financial rewards ranging from P50,000 to P200,000, depending on their categories and placements. Champions in the categories received P200,000, while first runner-ups got P100,000.

Barangay Santolan bagged the grand prize as the first ever recipient of the Pag-Asa Award for Kalikasan. For their overall exemplary performance, the barangay was given P300,000 as cash incentive.

Barangay Santolan was also hailed as champions of the “Cleanest And Greenest Barangay,” and “Most Outstanding Barangay for compliance to the Manila Bay Clean Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program (MBCRPP)” awards, as well as first runner up of the Solid Waste Management award. They won all these awards under the special barangay category.

“Ito ay patunay ng ating patuloy na paglilingkod sa bawat Santoleño. Kayo po ay makakaasa na mas lalo nating pagbubutihin ang pangangalaga sa kalinisan at kaayusan ng ating barangay (This is proof of our continued service to each Santoleño. Rest assured we will improve our programs for the cleanliness and orderliness of our barangay),” read the social media post of the Barangay Santolan.

Another big winner in the ceremony was Barangay Dela Paz, who was champions of the Solid Waste Management, and Cleanest and Greenest Barangay awards under the highly urbanized category.

They also placed second for the MBCRPP award.

On social media, officials of Barangay Dela Paz thanked their constituents, the barangay environmental police, street sweepers, and other clean and green service providers, as well as residents for keeping their green spaces clean.
