On Monday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to promoting access to information during the 14th International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) held in Pasay City.

The President commended the ICIC for its efforts in advancing the right to information and emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and empowered citizenship.

The Philippines, as a nation with a robust democracy, stands in solidarity with the ICIC and the global community in advocating for this fundamental human right.

Despite not having a Freedom of Information law in place, the Philippines was recognized by the ICIC in 2020 for its national policy on access to information.

The event hosted by the Philippines’ Freedom of Information – Program Management Office (FOI – PMO) brought together ICIC member countries from around the world.

The ICIC, founded in 2003, aims to enhance public access to information, promote cooperation and dialogue, and support the sharing of best practices among member states.

In March 2019, the ICIC adopted its Governance Charter, a significant milestone for the organization.
