Twenty weavers from Sagada recently underwent a three-day training in Advance Handloom Weaving for Complex Designs and Patterns, organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Mountain Province.

Resource Speaker Rose Ann B. Wangdali shared her expertise in creating designs, developing new patterns, and teaching various weaving techniques from May 8 to 10.

The weavers were previously focused on weaving itself, but Wangdali expanded their knowledge by teaching them design principles and innovative techniques.

The weavers also expressed gratitude to the DOST for conducting the training, as it provides valuable learning opportunities for new weavers and strengthens their weaving businesses.

The training’s objective is to enhance the weavers’ skills in creating intricate designs and patterns, thereby contributing to the preservation of their culture and heritage.

These newfound capabilities will allow them to produce a wider range of woven fabrics, increasing marketability and generating additional income for their families and the local community.
