The San Juan City Local Government transformed 13 of its public schools into smart campuses by giving them fiber optic internet access, installing WiFi in every public space, and equipping every classroom with 55-inch smart screens.

There are roughly 7,000 families and 13,000 public school students in San Juan City. In collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Pinaglabanan Elementary School pupils in grades 3 through 6 received free laptops in 2020, and each student received a free tablet.

Additionally, free fiber internet access was made available to every family at home.

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte visited Pinaglabanan Elementary School on Decmeber 13, 2022, to observe how the campus uses technology as a teaching tool.

To close the achievement inequalities among students in a highly digitalized learning environment, Duterte wanted to imitate the free internet connectivity initiative of San Juan City.

VP Duterte, who was accompanying San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora during his inspection of Pinaglabanan Elementary School’s Free Fiber Optic Internet Connection and Free Wifi Program, expressed her admiration at seeing what she herself hopes for every Filipino student.

These technologies serve as a great help for Filipino students, especially for those who are studying in public schools. Through these, learning materials become accessible for the students and it also improves collaborative and interactive learning among the students. Additionally, these initiatives will help our schools to develop and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
