Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has recently signed Ordinance SP-3184, S-2023, or the “ Q City Bus Ordinance of Quezon City” which aims to institutionalize the city’s successful “free bus ride” program.

The initiative ensures the sustainability of the Q City Bus program which was initiated by Mayor Belmonte during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2020.

Additionally, the institutionalization of the program stands as a joint priority for both the executive and legislative branches of the city.

The program will be implemented by the Quezon City Traffic and Transportation Management Department and its funding will be provided through an annual allocation from the City Council as mandated by the ordinance.

Furthermore, the program has successfully provided free rides to a total of 12 million passengers across its eight routes.

The program’s impact on residents’ lives is evident in the socio-economic benefits it brings. By providing free bus rides, residents can save money that can be allocated to essential needs like food, electricity, and other necessities.

This initiative serves as a testament to the local government’s dedication to uplifting the lives of QCitizens and the city’s progress toward a more efficient and inclusive public transportation system.
