The Quezon City government led by QC Mayor Joy Belmonte is taking a step towards a brighter future by offering a research grant to QCitizens pursuing advanced studies in various fields.

Mayor Belmonte greenlights the enactment of City Ordinance 3174 establishing a research grant named after her late mother, journalist Betty Go Belmonte.

The ordinance aims to provide financial grants to QCitizens undertaking undergraduate, and postgraduate degree studies, including professors with approved research, thesis, or dissertation proposals related to issues and concerns of the city and its people.

Mayor Belmonte stated that “the passage of this measure ensures that QCitizens undertaking meaningful studies for the good of the city are given ample support.”

She also expressed gratitude to the city council for the recognition given to her mother, who devoted her life to the pursuit of truth, integrity, and fairness in journalism.

Moreover, the Betty Go Belmonte Research Grant will receive an initial funding of P1 million for its first year, and the program will be managed by a secretariat led by an executive officer appointed by the city mayor.

This program not only inspires and supports researchers, but it is also a significant and beneficial initiative for the progress and development of Quezon City and its residents.
