The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Batangas is evaluating the readiness and response capabilities of local government units (LGUs) following the recent 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the province.

Amor Banuelos-Calayan, head of PDRRMO, expressed the office’s intention to assess whether the LGUs were able to promptly assist those most affected by the earthquake. The quake, with its tectonic origin, was felt in Calatagan and various intensity levels were reported across Batangas.

San Jose and Cuenca’s local governments immediately suspended classes and cautioned the public about potential aftershocks. While no casualties have been reported in Cuenca, the search for possible victims is ongoing. Buildings, particularly schools, are being inspected.

During the earthquake, schools in Calabarzon, including the Philippine State College of Aeronautics Fernando Air Base Campus, Laiya Integrated National High School, and Lyceum of the Philippines University, executed evacuation procedures learned from earthquake drills.

The PDRRMO’s assessment of LGU responses reflects Batangas’ commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents in times of natural disasters. Through this evaluation, the province aims to enhance its capacity for effective disaster management and timely assistance to affected individuals and communities.
